Climate Clearance
Aimed to create recognition by regional residents and customers of products and services that can provide energy, water and resource use efficiencies, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so that both customers and retailers are made more aware of their options and product choices.
Thanks to a grant from the Sustainable Energy Development Office (SEDO), SEREG recruited 36 local businesses and companies to participate in the project. Participants offered special 'discount vouchers' on energy-efficient, waterwise and waste reduction products and services. Discount vouchers were distributed using 2 special Lift-Offs in the local community paper.
At the end of the project, redeemed vouchers were collected and collated so that the direct impact of the project in reducing regional greenhouse gas emissions could be calculated (and other savings such as waste, water and financial savings).
In all, 323 Climate Clearance vouchers were redeemed over 2-months, and the project resulted in the following savings:
- Electricity - 55,000 kWh / yr
- Waste - over 21,000 kg (mainly scrap metal and green waste)
- Water - 1,500 kL p.a.
- Money - $26,000 (first year of operational savings plus voucher incentive amount).
- Greenhouse - 235 T -eCO2 p.a. (efficient products and services)
- Greenhouse - 4,400 T -eCO2 p.a. (conservatively based on behaviour / attitude changes)
