Green Light Schools Fundraiser
![]()
Thanks to a grant from the Sustainable Energy Development Office, switch your thinking! Councils are offering schools throughout Perth's south-east a unique opportunity to participate in a programme that enables schools to raise valuable funds whilst helping the environment at the same time!
Successfully piloted in 2003, the Green Light Fundraiser is again being run as part of the award winning switch your thinking! programme – a local government initiative aimed at reducing regional greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change - and aims to deliver 5,000 half price, top quality energy-efficient compact fluorescent light globes (CFLs) to the community this year. These globes are extremely energy-efficient using 80% less energy than conventional light bulbs to produce the same amount of light, and they have a lifespan 8-10 times longer. The Green Light Fundraiser project will reduce our region’s greenhouse gas emissions by 3,000 tonnes of equivalent carbon dioxide over 5 years.
The Green Light Fundraiser package is an innovative and attractive initiative, also offering a range of fun novelty items in its “showbag” for kids.
The Green Light Fundraiser will:
· Help raise money for schools - 50% of CFL sales are kept by participating schools. Monies raised can be used to help leverage additional funds from the Federal government to implement other sustainability initiatives at school, such as installing a solar energy system, a wind turbine, rainwater tanks, or solar hot water system.
· Save your supporters money on electricity bills – each CFL will save the buyer approximately $100 over its lifetime, and
· Protect our environment - by saving energy, conserving natural resources, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
For more information about this project, or to register your schools interest in participating (run in Term 2, 28 April - Jun 2008), contact the Regional Greenhouse Coordinator Mr Jason Menzies on 9391 6032.
This project is proudly supported by program sponsors Solahart, Cool or Cosy, Water Corporation, Stockland and the Sustainable Energy Development Office.
