Parkwood Primary school has created a ‘closed loop’ when it comes to food production. The old school bike rack is now an upcycled vegetable garden and also houses the compost heap and worm farm. Students who coordinate the ‘Compost Collectors and Wiggly Worms’, break down the food scraps by mulching it with a shovel in a bucket to speed up the decomposition process.
Produce grown in the vegetable garden goes directly to the canteen for healthy, local lunches. Extra plants and worm wizz can be purchased by the community at school assemblies.
