Connecting to natural spaces
Ashburton Drive Primary School is located beside the Swingler Way Wetland. This is a man-made wetland constructed in 1986 at the same time as the school. There are a wide variety of birds and insects living in the wetland as well as turtles and small fish.
Students observe the wetlands by walking the perimeter with the science specialist teacher.
Unfortunately the degradation and pollution of the wetland means that student research and interaction is limited. The school would really like support to rehabilitate the wetland so it can be fully enjoyed by the school and the local community.
