School veggie gardens
Ashburton Drive Primary School boasts two veggie gardens.
The pre-primary veggie garden was constructed with the help of grant funding for labour and materials and commenced production in 2014.
Sadly, the garden has been vandalised since being established. The teachers are planning their winter garden and hope to build respect for the garden within the students and school community to prevent further damage.
The science veggie garden is maintained by Year 5 students and the science specialist teacher. Year 5 students are responsible for:
- Planting crops
- Weeding and maintaining crops
- Harvesting the produce
- Using the donated compost tumbler to produce compost from garden scraps and grass clippings
- Other classes use the garden to facilitate lessons on food webs and life cycles.
